Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo played less than three minutes on Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons. The two-time MVP fell on the floor from a non-contact injury before teammates helped him get back up. He walked gingerly into the locker room while accompanied by the team’s medical and training staff.A few minutes after Antetokounmpo left the floor, the Bucks announced that he would not return due to a right calf strain. Dr. Brian Sutterer tweeted after analyzing the video of the two-time MVP’s injury:“This was odd..didn’t see anything significant.”Brian Sutterer MD @BrianSuttererMDLINKThis was odd..didn’t see anything significantSutterer elaborated on his tweet via a video (1:08 mark).“We’ve seen the classic reaction with Achilles ruptures, with calf strains where people look behind them. … The first instinct is to look behind because it feels like somebody hit you in the back of the leg. I’ve never seen anybody look directly straight down, at least from what we’ve seen in replays. … This was an odd reaction to have for a potential Achilles injury.”Dr. Sutterer used as an example Indianapolis Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner, who is out with a calf injury. Against the Houston Texans on Sunday, Sutterer showed a clip of the defensive ace suddenly looking back as if somebody had hit him from behind.According to the YouTuber, there was no excessive push off before Giannis Antetokounmpo slumped to the floor. Sutterer added that, unlike what happened to Jayson Tatum and Damian Lillard, Antetokounmpo did not load up on his calf. The sports doctor noted that the Greek superstar was jogging back when the injury happened.Bucks rule out Achilles injury for Giannis AntetokounmpoA frustrated Giannis Antetokounmpo sat on the floor while waiting for his teammates to help him up. He silently limped back to the locker room with the Bucks' training staff following him. After the game, Doc Rivers inevitably responded to questions about Antetokounmpo’s status. Rivers said that the two-time MVP had an MRI, but the Bucks had already ruled out an Achilles injury. He continued that the imaging results would come tonight. The Bucks pulled off their biggest win of the season despite Giannis Antetokounmpo barely playing. They rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Pistons 113-109.Still, the Bucks will need their franchise player, who will likely miss time despite dodging an Achilles injury.
