Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison has been in the bad books of many of the team's fans since he traded generational superstar Luka Doncic to the LA Lakers last season.

In exchange for Doncic, Harrison brought in Anthony Davis, embracing a defense-first approach for the future seasons. In April, Harrison justified the trade by saying that defense wins championships.

However, just a few games into the new season and Dallas does not look like a contender. After playing only five games, Davis has been sidelined with a calf injury, and Dallas sits last in the West with a 2-7 record.

On Saturday, a post claiming Harrison had been fired went viral on social media. The post was by NBA Centel, a well-known parody social media account popular for taking jabs at players, coaches, and the league.

Although the Mavericks are experiencing one of their worst starts to a season, their general manager is still in power.

Is Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison in trouble?

So far, it looks like the LA Lakers have emerged as the winner of the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to LA and Anthony Davis to Dallas. Everything has gone wrong for Dallas since the trade.

Last season, Kyrie Irving tore his ACL during the final stretch of the regular season. Davis was still on the sidelines when Irving suffered the injury. The former Lakers big man returned to the court in the final few games but was unable to lead them to the playoffs.

The Mavs bagged the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft against all odds and selected Cooper Flagg. While he has shown flashes of his talent, he is far from the finished product and is currently nowhere near the level of Luka Doncic, who led the Mavs to a Finals appearance in the 2023-24 season.

Doncic is in the prime of his career and is putting up MVP-level numbers. The Lakers superstar is averaging 40.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game.

If the situation in Dallas worsens, Nico Harrison could be let go. According to ESPN's Tim MacMahon, there are "valid" questions over Harrison's future.
