The Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons locked horns for the first time this season at Arena CDMX in Mexico City on Saturday. The injury-hit Dallas team entered the game with a 2-3 record, while the Pistons took to the court after winning three of their previous five contests.

The Mavericks' starting lineup comprised Cooper Flagg, P.J. Washington, Klay Thompson, Daniel Gafford and Max Christie. On the flip side, the Pistons fielded a starting five of Ausar Thompson, Tobias Harris, Jalen Duren, Duncan Robinson and Cade Cunningham.

The Pistons enjoyed a strong start and took an early 15-1 lead with 6:55 remaining in the first quarter. The Mavericks struggled to counter Jalen Duren, who made his first shots and raced to 10 points.

Dallas got hot from beyond the arc and recorded a season-high for a quarter with five made threes in the first period. As a result, the visitors took a 30-27 lead in the second quarter.

The Mavericks went cold in the second quarter. The Pistons capitalized, hitting Dallas with a 21-2 run in four minutes. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd was forced to call a timeout as his team fell into a 10-point hole with 3:23 remaining in the period.

The Mavericks responded, closing the half with a 13-2 run. Cooper Flagg pushed his tally to 10 points and received strong support from the bench as Dallas went into the break with a 61-59 lead.

D'Angelo Russell caught fire for the Mavericks from 3-point range. His 22 points through three quarters helped Dallas take a 93-87 lead into the final period. Jalen Duren had 25 points after three quarters and kept the Pistons within striking distance.

Russell continued to lead the Mavericks with his offense, giving the team a 106-105 lead with just over four minutes remaining. Dallas went cold in the clutch, and the Pistons ended the game on a 17-4 run to win 122-110. Cade Cunningham dropped 21 points and tied a career-high with 18 assists, while Duren added 33 points and 10 rebounds.
