The Dallas Mavericks made a fresh move right ahead of the 2025-26 regular season. According to the reports, they added length to their roster with the signing of three players. On Saturday, the team reported that they had signed forward Matt Cross, center Jamarion Sharp and guard Zaire Smith to the roster.
Smith entered the league in the 2018 NBA draft. He was selected by the Phoenix Suns at 16th. However, he was shortly traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. Smith and the Sixers had high hopes for him and hoped for him to develop into a two-way player.
However, just two months later, his NBA debut was marred by an unfortunate injury. He suffered a broken foot before the Summer League. While he recovered from the foot surgery, Smith suffered a life-threatening foot allergy.
He finally made his NBA debut after playing in the G-League. Zaire Smith played in March against the Orlando Magic. In 6 games that season, he averaged 6.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game in 18 minutes. In the 2019-20 season, he played only 7 games, averaging under 5 minutes.

Since then, he has signed short contracts with the Memphis Grizzlies, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the OKC Thunder. There is a big doubt about whether he would get good minutes as a part of the Dallas Mavericks.
Matt Cross, the 6-foot-7-inch forward from the SMU Mustangs, went undrafted in the 2025 NBA draft. He has signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Mavericks. According to Real GM, the Mavs are expected to waive him soon after the contract is signed to join the Dallas Mavericks G-League team, the Texas Legends.
Jamarion Sharp also signed the Exhibit 10 contract with the Mavs, and as per Real GM, he is also expected to be waived off to join the Texas Legends. Last year, he spent the season playing with the Legends. He showed his defensive prowess, averaging 7.1 rebounds and 3.2 blocks. Sharp went undrafted in the 2024 NBA draft.
