The Dallas Mavericks roster has been far from ideal this season as injury woes continue to hound multiple players. Now, the team faces even more bad news as one of their studs in the frontcourt is set to miss more time.
On Tuesday, the Mavericks gave an update on the status of Dereck Lively II. The 7-foot-1 big man has endured his fair share of injuries in his young career, and this latest update is not a positive development at all.
"Mavericks center Dereck Lively II is currently being evaluated for swelling and discomfort in his right foot," the Mavericks' PR team tweeted. "He will miss the team’s upcoming three-game road trip and a further timeline will be provided in approximately 7-10 days."

This season, Lively has been limited to seven games as he deals with a knee issue and recovers from foot surgery that he underwent in the offseason. In the month of November, the former Duke big man has logged just four games; in his latest outing, he logged four points and four rebounds in 18 minutes against the New Orleans Pelicans last Friday.
Lively's extended absence is yet another blow to the battered Dallas Mavericks roster, who are still reeling from Kyrie Irving's Achilles injury earlier this year and Anthony Davis' latest calf issues. A few days ago, the team also announced that veteran guard Dante Exum would be having a season-ending procedure on his injured knee.
Though top draft pick Cooper Flagg is the undisputed future of the Dallas Mavericks roster, the team is struggling to stay relevant in the present, given the immense firepower that many other Western Conference teams are harnessing this season.
Dallas Mavericks Roster Update: Anthony Davis joins team practice ahead of showdown vs Lakers
For what it's worth, the Dallas Mavericks roster could be getting a huge boost in the coming days.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Anthony Davis will be joining team practice on Wednesday as the Mavs prepare for a road game against his former team LA Lakers on Friday.
Mavs head coach Jason Kidd added that the 10-time All-Star is "working to get back" and rejoin the Dallas Mavericks roster after last playing on October 29.
