LeBron James' son, Bronny James, continued to crack the LA Lakers' rotation as the team visited the Portland Trail Blazers on the second night of a back-to-back on Monday. Bronny entered this clash after playing 18 minutes against the Miami Heat on Sunday and nearly closing the game.

Coach JJ Redick had Bronny on the floor in the first quarter again amid Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves' absences. Doncic was out due to injury management and Reaves had a groin injury, leaving LA shorthanded in the backcourt.

Bronny James had a relatively quiet run in his first 10 minutes, with two assists, entering the timeout at the 6:29 mark of the second quarter. He had a plus-minus of -3, tied for second best on the Lakers with Deandre Ayton. The former second round pick didn't return in the half.

Bronny came back late in the third and partly played into the fourth quarter during the second half. It was his most impactful stretch as he knocked down a 3 and added three assists. He also had a steal.

Bronny James' rise gives Lakers massive depth boost

The Lakers have struggled with depth since the 2021-22 NBA season. They have had a decent top six or seven rotation at best, but beyond that, the end of the bench hasn't been as productive. The trend seems to be changing, especially under coach JJ Redick.

One of the former podcaster's emphases was on player development and Bronny James appeared as one of the early products alongside Dalton Knecht. Bronny didn't have a successful college career behind him. He struggled heavily in the Summer League and within the rotation.

However, he's grown with every step, spending most of his time in the G League last year. Towards the end of the regular season, Bronny grew more comfortable, though he was far from contributing to winning basketball.

He seems to have changed the course in that regard with his performance this year. Redick has shown enough faith in Bronny to deploy him early into the game as part of the rotation. Initially, he didn't seem as ready.

But on Sunday against the Heat and on Monday against the Trail Blazers, Bronny James returned the trust with impactful plays beyond the box score and highlight reels.

As a third string guard, it's everything the Lakers could ask for from him at this stage.
