After not receiving any playing time in the LA Lakers’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Oct. 31, Bronny James was in action on Sunday against the Miami Heat. The young guard wasted no time making an impression, delivering a highlight that left fans in awe.

Late in the first quarter, Jake LaRavia fired an outlet pass to Austin Reaves. With only Nikola Jovic back on defense, Reaves lobbed the ball perfectly, with Bronny finishing the play with a monstrous alley-oop dunk.

The 18,831 fans packed inside Crypto.com Arena went wild. The excitement also spread online. Among those cheering was Bronny’s girlfriend, Parker Whitfield, who was unable to contain her excitement.

That ended up being Bronny’s only bucket of the night, but he still made his presence felt in other ways. Over 18 minutes on the floor, he recorded two assists and three steals.

Ultimately, it was Luka Doncic who stole the show, putting up a 29-point triple-double to lead the Purple & Gold to a 130-120 victory.

Bronny James gets criticized by NBA writer following forgettable start to sophomore campaign

The LA Lakers have faced multiple challenges this season, with several key players sidelined due to injuries. The team’s backcourt has been affected, as Luka Doncic, Marcus Smart, and Gabe Vincent have all missed multiple games.

Even with those absences, Bronny James has been unable to find playing time. Bronny has appeared in only four games so far, averaging 9.3 minutes per game. During that stretch, he has recorded just two points, three rebounds and five assists in total.

Writer Tyler Watts of Lake Show Life expressed concerns about Bronny’s early-season struggles. He questioned why the young guard has not been able to earn head coach JJ Redick’s trust, even with the team’s shortage of guards.

“Bronny James isn’t an NBA player at this stage,” Watts wrote. “The Los Angeles Lakers can’t play him (James) right now. It is on Bronny to earn Redick’s trust and overtake a role on this team… There are seemingly minutes available, but the young guard isn’t snatching them.”

The Lakers are set to face two of the top teams in the Western Conference next, the Portland Trail Blazers and the San Antonio Spurs. With tough competition ahead, it’s unlikely that Bronny will see much playing time in these games.
