Billups was arrested in a federal operation named "Operation Royal Flush". Prosecutors have accused 31 defendants, including the Blazers coach of plotting and executing rigged gambling operations.

According to reports, four of the five mafia families that have ruled organized crime in the New York area had backed the rigged gambling plot. Chauncey Billups was charged in this indictment along with former NBA player Damon Jones.

It is not revealed where Billups was arrested, but he appeared in an Orlando court on the same day as his arrest. According to NBC affiliate KGW, the Blazers coach was released from custody following his appearance in court. However, he has to abide by certain conditions, which include travel restrictions, no gambling activity, and a no-contact order.

How much prison time can Chauncey Billups face if proven guilty?

He was part of a criminal scheme in Manhattan, Miami, the Hamptons, and Las Vegas. Billups was aided by high-tech cheating devices such as an X-ray table and a manipulated shuffling machine. He played for the cheating team and helped the mob-affiliated scammers rake in more than $7 million over six years.

Billups won too many games during his time on the poker tables, which raised suspicions among the players who played against him. Ultimately, it led to an investigation into the matter.

According to "The Athletic", the Blazers coach can face up to 20 years in prison if he is proven guilty of the charges alleged against him.
