Following the firing of former general manager Nico Harrison, the Dallas Mavericks are already eyeing their first major step involving superstar Anthony Davis. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Mavericks are looking to evaluate Davis' market value over the next few months.

Stein reported on Wednesday that the Mavericks will be working with Davis to determine the possibility of a trade mid-season.

“It's believed the Mavericks will work with Davis' camp over the next two-plus months as they decide whether to pursue an in-season trade,” Stein wrote in his Substack.

Stein also clarified that Davis has no intention of forcing him out of Dallas after the Harrison firing. The former general manager had been vocal about his adoration for Davis' two-way chops in the aftermath of the Luka Doncic that brought the 10-time All-Star to the Mavericks.

“There has been no suggestion in the immediate aftermath of Harrison's ouster that he would try to force his exit just because Harrison, who openly loved him and wanted to build around him, has abruptly been dismissed,” he wrote.

Davis has been dealing with a calf injury to start the 2025-2026 NBA season. He has only appeared in five games so far, averaging 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game.

Davis came to Dallas last February as the Mavericks' main acquisition in the Doncic trade to the LA Lakers.

The Mavericks have struggled to start this NBA season, winning only three of their 11 games.

Anthony Davis will only reportedly play if the Mavericks' owner approves it

Anthony Davis' calf injury has caused concerns in Dallas, prompting the Mavericks' ownership to decide whether he will play or not. According to ESPN's Tim MacMahon, Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont is seeking medical data about Davis' risk of getting an aggravated calf strain before allowing him to return to the court.

"Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont has requested medical data indicating that Anthony Davis is not at risk of aggravating his left calf strain before giving a green light for the 10-time All-Star big man to return, sources told ESPN on Wednesday," MacMahon reported.

It comes after concerns about Davis' potential risk of getting a worse injury, such as an Achilles tear.

Davis has missed seven straight Mavericks games since picking up a non-contact calf injury in a game against the Pacers last Oct. 29.

Davis remains without a timetable for a return.
