Davis was engaged early as one of the Mavericks' players with the most touches. However, the Lakers didn't allow him to attack mismatches or play in one-on-one coverages.

They loaded up and blitzed him with doubles on every touch, leading to Davis becoming an offensive hub to start the contest. He still managed to get a shot up as a dunk and made it before heading to the bench at the 5:31 minute mark of the first quarter.

He returned in the second quarter, playing similar minutes amid a 24-27-minute restriction game. Davis was more imposing in that stretch, adding a rebound, two assists and two more points to his total.
He bothered Maxi Kleber and Deandre Ayton down low, drawing fouls at will, giving the Mavericks a major boost as they cut LA's lead to one with 7:31 left. Davis returned for another three-minute stint to close the half.
