Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis spoke about the firing of former General Manager Nico Harrison on Wednesday. The former LA Lakers star made an honest admission about Harrison's sack and disclosed he spoke to owner Patrick Dumont following the decision to relieve Harrison of his role.
Davis expressed surprise and appreciation for Nico Harrison. The former General Manager was a key figure in bringing him to Dallas in a controversial move that sent Luka Doncic to Los Angeles.
“It was surprising more than anything,” Davis said. “Nico’s my guy. He played a huge part in getting me here and wanting me to fulfill his vision that he saw. It was definitely tough. Me & him had a conversation. Me & (Mavs governor) Patrick (Dumont) had a conversation. It’s the business of basketball.”
The Mavericks on Feb. 2 executed a blockbuster three-team trade with the Lakers that sent Doncic, along with Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, to Los Angeles. In return, Dallas received Anthony Davis, wing Max Christie and the Lakers’ 2029 first-round draft pick.

Mavericks fans revolted, with “Fire Nico” chants heard during home games. Nico Harrison, who was under pressure, was fired on Nov. 11 amid bad results; they began the season 3-8, which was their worst start in years.
Harrison’s exit led to rumors of an exit for Anthony Davis. However, the Mavericks via former owner Mark Cuban publicly stated that they do not plan to trade Davis this season.
Anthony Davis hoping to make injury return against former team LA Lakers
Anthony Davis has been dealing with a calf injury that has limited him to five games this season. He is expected to be out for the Cup game against the Lakers but when asked which game he would love to mark his return, he mentioned the Lakers.
“That’s a real question?" Davis said. "You know what game I want to play. But we’ll see. We’ll have a conversation and see what makes the most sense with the medical and coaching staff and see if a decision has been made."
"Obviously would like to, but at the end of the day, the main thing is just getting back on the floor whether it’s Friday or Saturday, whatever we discuss.”
Davis sustained a left calf strain on Oct. 29 during a game against the Indiana Pacers. He took part in a full practice on Wednesday, his first since the injury. He is averaging 20.8 points. 10.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game for the Mavericks, who have struggled in his absence.
