Anthony Davis had one of the worst games of his career against the OKC Thunder on Friday. The Dallas Mavericks (8-16) lost 132-111 and fell to the 12th seed in the Western Conference, 14.5 games behind the Thunder (22-1) in first.

Davis finished the night with just two points in 24 minutes of action. After the game, the forward was asked about what sets the Thunder apart. Following a night of struggles, Davis immediately pointed to the team’s defense.

“Defensively, I mean, they’re very good with their hands, they’re very good at throwing them up,” Davis said. “They’re playing really, really good basketball on both ends of the floor. You got to play almost perfect basketball as well. They capitalize on your mistakes.”

Safe to say that Anthony Davis has had a rough start to his 2025-26 season. He is averaging 18.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

While his numbers are solid, they are not quite up to his standards. The 14th-year forward is currently recording the worst scoring output of his career outside his rookie season.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban makes Anthony Davis trade stance clear

With Anthony Davis struggling and Luka Doncic playing like one of the league's best players in Los Angeles, Mavericks fans have begun to ask for the star forward to be traded. The fanbase was never happy with the Doncic trade, and as the team continues to struggle, many are pushing for it to cash in on Davis.

Despite the noise, Mark Cuban remains confident in the forward’s abilities, sharing his intentions for the player.

“We won’t. We want to try to win,” Cuban told The Athletic when asked about trading Davis.

While the Mavericks hope to win and contend, the results have not been in their favor. On paper, the team boasts one of the deepest rosters in the league, it has yet to find its footing.

However, Dallas could surprise many as No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg continues to develop. He is averaging 19.9 ppg, 6.1 rpg and 3.5 apg in his last 10 games. Moreover, Kyrie Irving will also rejoin the team either near the end of 2025-26 or next season. A player of his quality is sure to lift the roster.
