The Dallas Mavericks could certainly use the services of Anthony Davis, who has missed their last eight games due to a calf injury. According to a new report, the Mavs may have to wait another week or so before Davis makes his comeback.

On Sunday, ESPN's Shams Charania tweeted an update on the one-time NBA champion's injury status.

"Mavericks' Anthony Davis will miss at least 7 to 10 more days as he rehabs from a left calf strain," Charania tweeted.

If this timeline is accurate, Davis could make his return against the LA Lakers, the very team that shipped him away to acquire Luka Doncic.

In his first full season with the Mavericks, Davis has played just a handful of games thus far. After four outings, the 10-time All-Star was averaging 25.0 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. However, on October 29, Davis had to make an early exit from the Mavs' showdown against the Indiana Pacers due to soreness in his left leg.

The injury was later diagnosed as a calf strain, and as Davis recuperated, the Mavs continued to struggle. Their 2-3 start would be followed by a four-game losing streak, and a victory over the Washington Wizards on November would be followed by a three-game skid.

This eight-game stretch coincides with Davis' absence, and though they have remained solid on the defensive end, their offense has plenty of room for improvement. Getting a constant double-double threat like Davis would be a huge boost to their scoring production.

Report: Nico Harrison urged Anthony Davis to make an early return from calf injury

It's also worth noting that, according to a report by The Athletic last week, Davis was reportedly being urged by former Mavs GM Nico Harrison to "speed up" his return.

As per the report: "Monday’s loss to the Bucks marked the sixth straight game Davis has missed with a left calf strain. Multiple league sources said Davis has tried to convince the Mavs to let him return to the court, and Harrison urged him to return, but the team’s medical staff forbade it, citing the potential for a torn Achilles if Davis returned too soon."

A day after Dallas' loss to Milwaukee, the Mavericks announced that they were relieving Harrison of the GM role. In an open later subsequently posted on X, Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont explained that the decision had been made to fire Harrison because "results were not meeting expectations" in Dallas.
