OKC Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has a chance to win the MVP in the 2025-26 NBA season again. Gilgeous-Alexander took over the league last season, averaging 32.7 points, five rebounds and 6.4 assists. He also led the Thunder to the best record, 68-14, and won the championship.

This season, it's more of the same for SGA, he's averaging 33.1 points while leading the undefeated Thunder to an early 8-0 record. Though he could be the back-to-back MVP, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas said that it's tougher for the three-time All-Star to win again.

On Tuesday, the former Washington Wizards star gave his hot take about the Canadian star's chances of winning the MVP on Threads.

"It’ll be hard for SGA to win back to back MVP because he not just competing against the field but against what he did last year," the three-time All-Star posted.

Arenas said that Nikola Jokic is still Gilgeous-Alexander's biggest competition. The Thunder star needs to do better than what he did last year for him to win over the Serbian star.

"SGA is gonna have to improve his stats and OKC be first to win it," he continued. "But if Jokic avg a triple double and Denver ends up first, he’ll get it 💯"

Like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, many believe that Jokic is on a mission to lead the Denver Nuggets back to the top. In six games, the three-time MVP has averaged 22.7 points, 13.2 rebounds and 11.3 assists.

While it's still early in the season, the competitive MVP race has started between the two superstars.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander doesn't think much about the Thunder's dynasty following a historic start

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander isn't paying much attention to the success that the Thunder has had to start the new campaign. The team is coming off a title win and it looks like they could begin a dynasty with how they started the season. After achieving an 8-0 record, the current squad has secured the best start in franchise history.

The new record has sparked conversations about the Thunder being a dynasty. The team's best player doesn't think much of it, and is focused on his personal goals.

"I don't really care about pressure. I have expectations for myself and I have goals I want to accomplish. I'm going to go out there and give this game everything I have. That's all I can control. Whatever happens from there, happens from there," Gilgeous-Alexander said.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder have a chance to extend their winning streak to nine games on Wednesday. They will face the Portland Trail Blazers (4-3) at the Moda Center.
