Following an eight-day, four-game road trip, the Dallas Mavericks are back home to face the Miami Heat for the second and final time this season. It’s been a season of struggles for Dallas, sitting 12th in the Western Conference with a 7-15 record.

However, the Mavs are showing some serious signs of positivity. The season’s first back-to-back win instilled some new energy. That 129-119 loss last Friday in L.A. led to an intense team practice and video sessions. Dallas’ two games since have been two of their better games of the season, and certainly some of the best they’ve played on the road so far.

Anthony Davis’ return has helped turn the tide. The Mavs superstar came back from a long injury absence and delivered 32 points, 13 rebounds and four assists in 32 minutes, leading them to 131-121 win over the Nuggets in his second start. Now the question will be whether they can carry that momentum into an extended period of time.

Miami, meanwhile, is playing some of its best and most consistent basketball of the season. The team arrives in Dallas fresh off a 140-123 win over the Clippers on Monday, a bounce-back performance after its six-game streak was snapped by the Pistons in the previous game.

They’re second in scoring, averaging 111.2 points per game, and hold the third spot in the East with a 14-7 record. If they can maintain this pace, they’re positioning themselves as a team that will be tough to crack in the postseason. Confidence among the Miami players seems high, which could be a subtle but significant factor against a Dallas side playing at home while still searching for its best form.
