The LA Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies begin their 2025 NBA Emirates Cup tournament on Friday at the FedExForum. The Western Conference teams are tied 3-2 for the same record after the first week of the season.
The Lakers have reached this point despite numerous injuries. LeBron James, Adou Thiero and Maxi Kleber haven't made their season debuts. Meanwhile, Luka Doncic and Jaxson Hayes have missed three games each. Marcus Smart was out for the last two games and remains uncertain to return on Friday, while Gabe Vincent is out for at least two to four weeks after sitting out two matchups.
Austin Reaves has led the team this past week with a sensational run, which included his 51 points against the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, a 41-point night against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday and a 28-point, 16-assist game vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.
On the other hand, the Grizzlies have missed multiple role players, including Zach Edey and Brandon Clarke, but their stars, Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr., are healthy and showing tremendous promise. Memphis beat the Phoenix Suns 114-113 on Wednesday behind Morant's game-winner. He had 28 points and seven assists.
