Houston Rockets vs San Antonio Spurs Preview
This West Group C NBA Emirates Cup matchup pits two of the most formidable teams so far this season. They have been prolific to start the season and are among the title contenders from the West. This will be the first NBA Cup game of the season for both teams.
The Rockets are on a five-game winning streak after opening the season with two losses. They most recently defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 124-109 on Wednesday. Amen Thompson led the team in scoring with 28 points, along with 10 rebounds.
Alperen Sengun had a double-double as well with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Kevin Durant had an off night with just 11 points in 34 minutes.
The Spurs, meanwhile, have lost two straight after winning the first five games of the season. Their most recent loss was a narrow 118-116 defeat to the LA Lakers on Wednesday.
Victor Wembanyama struggled with his shot, finishing the game with 19 points on 5-of-14 shooting. Wemby had an off game in the previous loss to the Phoenix Suns as well. In that game Sunday, he had just nine points on 4-of-14 shooting.
If the Spurs are to get back to their winning ways, they need more production from the French phenom who is also one of the favorites for the MVP and DPOY awards this season.
Houston may be without Fred VanVleet (torn ACL) for the entire season, while Dorian Finney-Smith is out Friday with an ankle injury. Steven Adams is questionable with a hip issue.
The Spurs are without De’Aaron Fox (hamstring), Dylan Harper (strained left calf) and Luke Kornet (ankle). Kelly Olynyk (heel) and Jeremy Sochan (wrist) are questionable.

Houston Rockets vs San Antonio Spurs Prediction and Betting Tips
The oddsmakers slightly favor the Rockets to open their NBA Cup campaign with a win on the road. While we expect the same seeing Wemby’s production in the past two games, it would be unwise to write off the young star.
If he manages to have a bounceback game, expect the Spurs to beat the odds and win a closely-fought game where the team total goes past 224 points.
