She was born on 8 February 1989 in Kent, Washington, U.S. Vandersloot started her basketball journey at Kentwood High School and eventually, she became the star who led the team by averaging 26 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals in her senior season. In that year her team finished 3rd in the state tournament. After a successful school career, she moved to Gonzaga University's women's basketball team for college basketball in 2007. She became a three-time WCC Player of the Year and three-time WCC tournament MVP.
