Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Kayla McBride plays as a shooting guard for the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA. She was drafted as the third overall pick by the Las Vegas Aces in the 2014 WNBA Draft. She is a five-time All-Star and one of the best three-point shooters in the history of the WNBA. She also won her first team trophy in her WNBA career by winning the WNBA Commissioner's Cup in 2024.
McBride’s overseas career is one of the most decorated among the Team USA players. She has played in Hungary, Russia, and Turkey in her career. Kayla McBride played college basketball for the University of Notre Dame and joined the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s basketball team. In her freshman season, McBride played from the bench and only made 19 appearances during the season due to an academic issue. She averaged 8.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.9 steals per game.
In her sophomore season, McBride averaged 11.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. She finished 14th in scoring (452) and 20th in steals (60) in the Big East conference. She also won her first Big East regular-season championship. In her junior year, McBride averaged 15.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. She finished fourth in scoring (590), 20th in assists (88), and 17th in steals (57) in the Big-East conference and made the All-Big-East first team and her first AP All-America appearance (third team). She won both the regular-season championship (second) and her first Conference tournament championship.
In her senior year, McBride averaged 17.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. She finished fourth in scoring (669) and sixth in assists (146) in the ACC conference and made the All-ACC first team, and her second AP All-America appearance (first team). She won both the regular-season championship (third) and her second Conference tournament championship. In her NCAA career, McBride made two National Finals appearances and one Elite-Eight appearance with the Fighting Irish.
She made three consecutive NCAA Tournament All-Region teams and one NCAA All-Tournament team in her career. She ended her college career with 1876 points, 611 rebounds, 330 assists, and 183 steals. She finished with the ninth-most points and seventh-most field goals made in the history of the Fighting Irish. She is also one of seven players to play 3700+ minutes in the history of the Fighting Irish.

Kayla McBride attended Villa Maria Academy in Erie, Pennsylvania. She was part of the 2010 McDonald’s All-American game. She led the VMA to a combined record of 106-15 and won two Pennsylvania Class AA state titles.
