Breanna Stewart, nicknamed “Stewie”, is an American professional basketball player playing for the New York Liberty of the WNBA. Born in Syracuse, Stewart played for Cicero-North Syracuse High School in Cicero, New York. Stewart initially came off the bench in her freshman season averaging 9 points and 9 rebounds a game. That year, her team finished the season 21-3 and made it to the regional final game. In her junior year of high school, she averaged 24 points and 15 rebounds a game and was named to the 2012 McDonald’s All-American team. After her stellar college career, Stewart declared for the 2016 WNBA draft and was selected number one overall by the Seattle Storm.

Stewart committed to UConn and made an immediate impact. In her freshman season, she scored 169 points in her first 10 games, breaking the record previously held by Maya Moore. She led UConn to the national championship in just her first season, winning the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four, making her the first freshman to win this award since 1987. Stewart finished her college career winning 3 Naismith College Player of the Year awards, 4 NCAA championships, 4 NCAA tournament Most Outstanding Player titles, and was also named 3 First-Team All-Americans.
