Alyssa Thomas is an American forward who was the driving force for the Connecticut Sun from 2014 to 2024 before joining the Phoenix Mercury in 2025. The 6-foot-2 forward is nicknamed "The Engine" due to her relentless energy and leadership. Thomas made her Olympic debut with Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics and won the Olympic gold medal. She was drafted by the New York Liberty as the fourth overall pick in the 2014 draft.

In the 2025 WNBA season, Alyssa Thomas played 39 games for the Phoenix Mercury, averaging 31.3 minutes per game. Thomas averaged 15.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, 9.2 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.

Alyssa Thomas played college basketball for the University women’s basketball team, also known as the Maryland Terrapins. She dominated the ACC Conference, winning three out of four Conference Player of the Year awards (2012, 2013, and 2014). In 2011, Thomas was named the Rookie of the Year for averaging 14.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game.

In her sophomore year, Thomas averaged 17.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. She led the team in points and steals per game and was second in rebounds and assists per game. She also led the Terrapins to the conference tournament championship, recording 29 points, four rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block in the finals against Georgia Tech.

In her junior year, Thomas averaged 18.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists per game, and 1.8 steals per game. She led the conference in assists and rebounds per game. In her senior year, she averaged 19.0 points, 10.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, shooting a career-high 51.3% from the field.

She holds the record for most rebounds (381) in a single season for the Terrapins. In the history of Terrapins, Thomas is first in total points (2356), second in total assists (488), first in rebounds (1235) and defensive rebounds (853), first in field goals made (890) and free throws made (557).

Alyssa Thomas High School

Alyssa Thomas attended Central Dauphin High School in Pennsylvania, where she became one of the state's most decorated athletes. She was a 2010 Parade All-American and a unanimous ESPN and USA Today All-American. Thomas averaged 24.3 points and 12.8 rebounds per game as a senior and finished with a school-record 2,291 points and 1,390 rebounds. Thomas led Central Dauphin High School to the 2008 state championship and was a three-time Pennsylvania AAAA First Team All-State selection.
