Where does Charles Oliveira live?

Charles Oliveira currently lives in Guarujá, Brazil, near his former neighborhood of Vicente de Carvalho. He resides in the renowned Acapulco condominium situated in Guaraja. Having grown up in the impoverished areas commonly known as "favelas" in Brazil, his decision to live close to his origins symbolizes the remarkable level of success he has attained in his MMA career.

Charles Oliveira’s Early Life

Charles Oliveira, who was born into an underprivileged family in the favela of Vicente de Carvalho in Guarujá, São Paulo, Brazil, had aspirations of becoming a professional football player. However, at the age of 7, he began experiencing health problems, including regular body pains and difficulty walking. At times, he even lost the ability to move his legs. He was diagnosed with rheumatic fever and a heart murmur, which had a severe impact on his ankle. The doctor informed his family that he could potentially become paraplegic. Despite being frequently bedridden and facing numerous challenges due to his illnesses, Oliveira's parents were determined to involve him in sports programs.

After two years of struggling with his health, Oliveira began to show signs of improvement. It was around the age of 12 when a neighbor named Paulo introduced him to Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Under the guidance of Roger Coelho, Oliveira started training in this martial art. Despite his family's limited income, the coach at the Brazilian jiu-jitsu gym offered free classes as part of a social program. To support his training, Oliveira's family sold street snacks and recycled cardboard.

Tragically, when Oliveira was 14 years old, Paulo, the man who had introduced him to jiu-jitsu, lost his life during a shootout in Vicente de Carvalho. This incident had a profound impact on Oliveira's life.
