Joaquin Buckley has been chasing a fight with Shavkat Rakhmonov for months and has accused the undefeated contender of avoiding him while recovering from a knee injury. Rakhmonov eventually replied on social media with a translated comment that included the words "black boy", which Buckley took as a racial insult.

Buckley responded with an angry video, saying the comment went beyond trash talk and touched something personal. He made it clear he wanted Rakhmonov more than any other opponent and promised to hurt him if the fight ever happened. He said:

"I don't care about that Usman fight. That man had to hold me down. Nobody wants to fight with me toe-to-toe. Shavkat, I heard you chirping. Talking about 'black boy'. Imma show you where the f*ck we come from. Imma f*ck you up... Shavkat, if you don't sign the motherf*cker, somebody else gonna die. I'm burying everybody in the UFC."

Rakhmonov responded to Buckley on X, writing:

"You are delusional. I’d rather fight the guy who just whooped you than waste time on you kid. You can be my third option, big mouth."

Shavkat Rakhmonov is open to a No.1 contender fight

Shavkat Rakhmonov has made it clear that his goal remains a UFC welterweight title shot, but he has to remain realistic about the timing. With Islam Makhachev capturing the welterweight throne, Rakhmonov understands the division may need time to settle.

Rather than sit idle, the undefeated contender is willing to fight again, but only if it secures his place as the next challenger. Rakhmonov views a No.1 contender bout as the only logical step if the belt is not immediately available. Speaking in an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, he said:

"Of course, I would prefer to fight for the title next, but I think this timeline isn’t going to work for Islam, February or March. He will probably defend his belt in April or May. If I have to fight before getting a title shot, I have no problem with that. The most intriguing fight for me is Kamaru Usman, but I don’t believe he’s going to accept a fight against me. He’s turned down fights with me in the past."
