The 2025 Brazil GP Sprint started with a crash involving Oscar Piastri, Nico Hulkenberg, and Franco Colapinto, as the aforementioned drivers hit the barrier. Just after five laps into the Sprint, the drivers crashed as they lost control and hit the wall in Turn 3, bringing in the safety car.

Piastri started his race from P3 and was in the same place before the crash. As he crossed the line for Lap 5, he took too much kerb going into Turn 3 and hit the barrier at high speed. Kick Sauber driver Hulkenberg, and Alpine star Colapinto also faced the same fate.

Hulkenberg and Colapinto lost control of their cars, slipped, and crashed into the wall. Hulkenberg started his race from P10, while Colapinto started from P16. Piastri and Colapinto retired from the race, whereas Hulkenberg came to the pit and continued the race.

Oscar Piastri crashing out of the race changes the dynamic of the championship. The Australian driver was just a point behind his teammate, and Championship rival, Lando Norris. However, Piastri crashing out of the race is likely to increase the lead given Norris finishes the race.

Norris started the race from the pole and was running in P1 at the time of the crash. Max Verstappen, another championship contender, started his race from P6 and was running in P4 at the time of publishing this article.

Oscar Piastri's downward spiral continues

Following his Dutch GP win in the Netherlands back in August, Oscar Piastri has yet to return to winning ways. The former Championship leader has lost enormous points over the next few races, where fellow teammate and contender Lando Norris and reigning champion, Max Verstappen covered the ground with wins.

The man from Land Down Under faced DNFs thrice in the last five races (including two Sprints). In the other races, he managed a P4, and two P5s. This means his last podium came about two months ago.

He faced a DNF in Q3 in Baku, followed by another DNF in the race. This was followed by another DNF in the US GP Sprint, and then a DNF in the ongoing Brazil GP Sprint. If Norris goes on to win the race, he will extend his championship lead to eight points, and Verstappen will reach within 30 30-point gap.
