Helmut Marko has one of the three pillars alongside Christian Horner and Adrian Newey, who made Red Bull the top team it is today. After over two successful decades with the Milton Keynes-based team, the 82-year-old confirmed his exit at the end of 2025.

Marko's role at Red Bull was never clearly designated, with him being an advisor. However, the Austrian was prominently responsible for handling the Red Bull junior team and the crucial driver decision for the Milton Keynes-based team and its Faenza-based sister team.

Rocquelin began his career as an engineer in the IndyCar series in the 2000s after completing his engineering studies at the Grenoble Institute of Technology. He joined Red Bull Racing in 2006 as David Coulthard’s race engineer, and in 2009, he was appointed as Sebastian Vettel’s race engineer.

Rocky won four world titles as Sebastian Vettel's race engineer from 2010 to 2013. After the Germans' exit from the team at the end of 2014, Guillaume Rocquelin was promoted to Head of Race Engineering. After 2022, Rocky took up a position to look after the Red Bull junior team, but has made a few appearances trackside since as Isack Hadjar’s race engineer at the 2023 Abu Dhabi GP FP1.

In the last couple of years, Guillaume Rocquelin and Helmut Marko have jointly led the Red Bull junior team, but he was recently confirmed as the independent head of the driver academy.

“Everything Max Verstappen has achieved”: Helmut Marko on what achievements he's most proud of during his time at Red Bull

Helmut Marko played a crucial role in scouting and signing Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen with Red Bull, and eventually gave them the platform to win the championships with the team. In a recent interview with De Telegraaf, Marko was asked what achievements he was most proud of, to which he replied,

“Actually, everything Max has achieved. That he was able to become world champion multiple times in not the best car. That he beat Lewis Hamilton in 2021. That we achieved the most wins in a single season in 2023. That Max performed immediately and won his first race after I put him in the Red Bull. There are so many. As Max and I said on the phone: we never could have dreamed we would achieve this together.”

Helmut Marko revealed how he informed Verstappen about his exit from the team over a phone call as the Dutchman was still in contention for the title going into the season finale at Abu Dhabi, as the Austrian didn't want to bother the Dutchman.
