Lewis Hamilton's former Mercedes teammate, Nico Rosberg, has claimed that the Briton's stint at Ferrari is "putting a little scratch" on his legacy as he continues to struggle in his first season with the Italian team. Rosberg also described the 2025 campaign as a "real nightmare" for Hamilton.

The 2016 F1 world champion is appearing on Sky Sports as a pundit for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend. Speaking on Saturday ahead of qualifying, he offered his assessment of Lewis Hamilton's time at Ferrari so far and noted that the move has not unfolded the way the 7x world champion would have hoped.

Rosberg said the season had been a difficult one for his former teammate and suggested that the challenges at Maranello were beginning to affect how Hamilton’s career is viewed. He pointed to the Briton's on track struggles and the gap to teammate Charles Leclerc in the standings.

“It’s been a terrible season for him and it’s not a worthy way to end his career. It’s so hard for him to deal with that because he has been beaten by his teammate, he is struggling to get into Q2 most of the time and he is spinning on his own. It is a real nightmare,” Rosberg said.

“I think it is even worse than it looks from the outside for him personally. He is the greatest and we are never going to debate that anymore but still it is putting a little scratch on his legacy now,” he added.

Lewis Hamilton has been comprehensively beaten by teammate Charles Leclerc this year, and the Monegasque holds a 78-point advantage with one round remaining.

The 40-year-old is even at risk of being overtaken in the standings by Kimi Antonelli, the driver who replaced him at Mercedes. The rookie sits only two points behind heading into Abu Dhabi.

The Ferrari man explained that he never got around to liking the current machines and highlighted porpoising as a major issue in the last four years.

"I won’t miss anything at all because I never liked this generation of cars. We had to deal with phenomena we’d never encountered before like porpoising and we found ourselves racing with very bulky and heavy cars."

"No one can say whether the next generation of cars will be better but I’m keen to see what this new Formula 1 will be like."

Hamilton has struggled to come to terms with the F1 cars since the 2022 season, as he has been beaten by his teammate in three of the last four years. He was also knocked out in Q1 during qualifying for the Abu Dhabi GP, marking the third consecutive race where he will start from the back end of the grid.
