Max Verstappen's race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, was seen crying on the pitwall after the Dutchman lost the 2025 drivers' championship to Lando Norris. Verstappen lost out to Norris by only two points at the season finale, having started his comeback more than 100 points away from the lead of the championship.

McLaren were the favorites to take home both the constructors and the drivers' world championship since the start of the 2025 season. Though the papaya squad was able to wrap up the constructors' championship in Singapore, the drivers' title went down to the wire.

Despite Norris having the edge over Verstappen arriving in Abu Dhabi, there was still half a chance that Norris would take the title home. Moreover, the Red Bull driver gave his all in Yas Marina and took both pole and the race win, but this still wasn't enough to become the 2025 world champion.

This left "GP" gutted as he was seen crying on the pitwall after Verstappen suffered a near miss at the world championship:

Talking to Viaplay, Verstappen was asked about GP crying on the pitwall, to which he replied (via @SCUDERIAFEMBOY):

"I know more than others how he experienced this season and it wasn't easy. I don't want to talk about it too much on the radio or here, so I hope I can talk to him about it soon."

Max Verstappen had a 104-point deficit to the lead of the championship standings after the Dutch GP and ended the 2025 season just two points behind the leader.

Max Verstappen was on the back foot at the start of the 2025 season. He had only won two races by the halfway mark and only returned to the victory lane in Italy after an eight-race winless streak.

Though this drought of race wins slowly faded away as the season progressed, the points loss caused in the first half of the season was too steep to overcome. Despite giving his all, he missed winning the championship by just two points.

However, Verstappen wasn't disappointed by the performance the Red Bull crew had put in the second phase of the season and said over the radio on the in-lap:

"Don't be too disappointed, I certainly am not. We can be proud of our comeback. Thanks everyone, including Honda for the past few years. We closed it out in style."

Meanwhile, this also means that Verstappen's championship streak came to an end this year. After becoming a world champion in 2021, he had never faced defeat throughout the course of the year until 2025, when Lando Norris took over the bragging rights for being the world champion.
