Red Bull star Max Verstappen and his longtime girlfriend Kelly Piquet were blessed with a daughter earlier this year, named Lily. The Dutchman was recently questioned about the prospect of Lily potentially getting into racing, with him hoping that it doesn't happen.
Max Verstappen is the son of former F1 driver Jos Verstappen. The Dutchman started karting at the age of four and soon joined professional karting series before making his way to single-seaters and making his F1 debut when he was just 17.
Max's father, Jos Verstappen, was crucial to the Dutchman's progress through the karting and the F1 ladder series. The former F1 driver accompanied his son to all the races and continues to be a part of the Verstappen camp.
With Max Verstappen's father playing a crucial role in the Red Bull star's career, the four-time F1 champion was questioned whether he sees her daughter Lily following in his footsteps and if Lily is going to be the first female F1 champion. The Dutchman replied,
“I hope not, please no. no, no, no. I hope not,” responded Verstappen (via Viaplay)
Kelly Piquet announced that she was pregnant with Max Verstappen's child after the 2024 season ended and welcomed Lily into the world in April 2025. Verstappen's girlfriend, Kelly Piquet, also has a daughter with her previous boyfriend and former Red Bull Racing driver Daniil Kvyat, named Penelope.

Kelly Piquet and Penelope attended multiple races during the 2024 season to support the Red Bull Racing star. However, since Lily was born, the Brazilian model was rarely spotted in the paddock, but continued to support her boyfriend via uploads on her social media accounts.
“I feel like I’m already missing out on a lot”: Max Verstappen on not being able to spend as much time with his family
Max Verstappen came out and spoke with The Athletic in July 2025, just months after the birth of his daughter Lily. The Dutchman detailed how he misses spending time with his family, whom he only really gets to see during the summer break and the holiday season. However, he continues to be passionate about driving cars, which is what keeps him on the track, away from the family.
“I spend my holidays with them, but I really miss the times when we just get together for a weekend or to hang out together on the couch, during a day off or just after a day of work. We live quite far away now. These kinds of moments are no longer possible in my life. I hope that one day it can go back to the way it was before,” said Verstappen
“I feel like I’m already missing out on a lot by not being able to be with my family. I don’t know when it’s going to end. At 32? At 35? At 36? I don’t know. It’s impossible to know. Some things aren’t fun, but what I enjoy the most is driving the car,” he added
Verstappen's father Jos continued to race in rally, his mother Sophie Kumpen lives in the Netherlands, and his sister Victoria got engaged to her long-time boyfriend in 2025.
