Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton took to the social media platform X and uploaded a one-word tweet ahead of the 2025 Brazilian GP. The tweet went viral with over 25,000 likes in an hour as the Briton celebrated his return to the country where he won his first F1 Championship.
Ferrari star Lewis Hamilton has a special connection with Brazil as the 40-year-old’s idol, Ayrton Senna, hailed from the country. Over the years, Hamilton has paid tribute to Senna by running a special helmet. Back in 2017, the Senna family gifted the Briton a race-worn helmet by the F1 legend as the former Mercedes driver equalled the Brazilian’s pole position award.
Hamilton has also had some memorable drives at the Interlagos circuit in Brazil, including the 2008 drive where he won his first F1 title on the last lap, beating Felipe Massa to it by just one point. In 2021, the Briton was in a tense championship battle with Max Verstappen when he was sent to the back of the grid after qualifying for his rear wing not meeting the regulations.
Lewis Hamilton started P20 and finished the sprint race in P5. He was then given a 5-place grid drop for taking a new engine, and started the main race in P10, and won that race, beating his championship rival to it. The Briton was handed a Brazilian flag after this race win, which he waved on his inlap, on the way to parc ferme.
Following Hamilton's 2021 Brazilian GP performance and the Briton's affection for the South American country, the Chamber of Deputies in Brasilia presented Hamilton with honorary Brazilian citizenship ahead of the 2022 race at Interlagos.
Lewis Hamilton took to X on November 6 to share a one-word tweet celebrating his return to Brazil.
“HOMECOMING,” read the tweet.
The tweet garnered over 268,000 views in the first hour, along with 25,000 likes.
Lewis Hamilton to run a special Brazilian flag-style helmet at the 2025 Brazilian GP
Lewis Hamilton spoke with GQ Brazil ahead of the 2025 Brazilian GP and revealed that he'd be running a Brazilian flag helmet for this year's race at Interlagos. The Briton detailed how his idol Ayrton Senna never got the chance to drive for Ferrari in his F1 career. Hamilton said,
“It’s a strange feeling, because I remember growing up watching Ayrton and, like everyone else, I always wondered what it would be like if Ayrton was in a Ferrari. And now, for the first time, you’re going to see a helmet with the Brazilian flag rolling around São Paulo in a Ferrari. I hope to make the people here proud, just like Senna and his family.”
Hamilton has won the Brazilian GP thrice, with the most recent victory coming in 2021.
