Things have been heating up at Ferrari after the harsh remark by the team's chairman, which led former Lewis Hamilton teammate and F1 champion, Jenson Button, to share an advice for the 49-year-old. Both Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have been outspoken about the hurdles that have hampered the Maranello-based squad, which seemingly didn't sit well with Elkann.
Ferrari is the most successful team in F1. They have won 16 constructors' and 15 drivers' titles, along with being the oldest active team on the grid.
However, their last title victory came back in 2008, and they have struggled to return the championship glory to Maranello. This trend continued into the 2025 season, where the scarlet duo aimed to take on the championship battle with McLaren after a strong 2024 campaign.
But the SF-25 was no match for the MCL39, leaving Hamilton and Leclerc with no option except waiting for the 2026 regulation cycle. With the pair often talking extensively about the team's struggles, this didn't sit well with Elkann, who jibed back at his drivers and told them to focus on driving.
Sharing his thoughts on the saga going on at Ferrari, Jenson Button then had one advice for Elkann on the Sky Sports F1's podcast:
"There's a lot of pressure, but I mean, John [Elkann] only has two cars in the red garage. It's very easy to find your racing driver and go and talk to him and say, 'you know what, that's not cool. That's not the way we do business. That's not the way we work as a team. These are the guidelines or let's talk about why you need to do that. You know, why do you feel the need to be sending so and so this and that. I get it. You're trying to help, but this is how it's always been at Ferrari. And yes, we might be willing to change, but let's talk it over.'" (24:42 onwards)
"Communication is the best thing in anything, but especially in a team when you have thousands of people working to develop a car and you got two drivers that are two of the best in the world. Just go and have a chat. They have a lot of experience as well of racing for the best teams in the sport."
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton has taken part in 21 race weekends as a Ferrari driver, with a best result of fourth, which he has achieved four times.
Lewis Hamilton is eager to take on the final stretch of races in the 2025 season

Lewis Hamilton arrived at Maranello with high hopes of fighting for the championship. However, the ground reality has been starkly different as he has been unable to score a podium in the Grand Prix format with the team so far.
Despite having a torrid weekend in Brazil, the seven-time champion is looking on to the final triple-header of the season, as he said after the race in Interlagos (via Ferrari):
"We’ve got one final stretch left, and we’ll give it everything."
Lewis Hamilton has amassed 148 points in the 2025 season so far, with 83 points still left up for grabs.
