Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton crashed out of the 2025 Abu Dhabi GP FP2 session as he went spinning into the barrier and brought out the red flags. The Ferrari star took to the team radio and reacted to the crash, while detailing the possible reason which led to the same.
Lewis Hamilton has had a terrible last few F1 weekends, failing to make the Q3 session since the Brazilian GP, including a dead last qualifying effort in Las Vegas in the wet conditions. The Briton has been visibly unhappy with the SF25.
Going into the Qatar GP, the Briton made comments suggesting he wasn't looking forward to the 2026 season. That was followed by a P18 qualifying effort at the Lusail International Circuit. The Briton seems to have carried forward the bad form into the 2025 season finale.
Lewis Hamilton had a great first quarter at the Abu Dhabi GP in FP2, trading the fastest lap times with Max Verstappen. Just over halfway into the session, the seven-time F1 champion had a major crash and brought out the red flags.
The Ferrari star was on the eighth lap on the soft compound of tires when going into Turn 9, the SF25 spun around and slammed into the barrier. The corner entry seemed fine, but the car snapped on the apex, with a moment of oversteer.

Hamilton took to the team radio after crashing, as he said,
“Yeah, something buckled at the front and snapped at the rear.”
When Lewis Hamilton's race engineer Ricciardo Adami asked if the Briton was okay, he responded with,
“Yeah… Sorry. Ahhhh”
F1TV analyst Alex Brundle had an in-depth look at the incident, detailing how the rear of Hamilton's SF25 bottomed out in the corner exit, and suggested that something snapped at the rear which then led to the crash.
The session was resumed with less than 20 minutes on the clock, taking important track time away from the title challengers before the qualifying later today.
Lewis Hamilton doesn’t regret joining Ferrari amid the difficult 2025 season
Lewis Hamilton left Mercedes after 12 successful years with the team and joined Ferrari ahead of the 2025 season. However, the Briton did not have the smoothest of sailing, with difficulty taming the SF25, the ride height issues and more. Even after the upgrades at the Belgian GP, the seven-time F1 champion continued to struggle.
Asked after the disastrous Las Vegas GP whether Hamilton regretted joining Ferrari, he replied,
“I don't regret the decision I've made joining the team. I know it takes time to build and grow within an organisation and [I] expected that.”
Hamilton sits P6 in the F1 standings going into Abu Dhabi, with Kimi Antonelli threatening to take that away, just a few points behind the Briton
