The Aussie driver did not take part in FP1, though, as Pato O'Ward jumped into his MCL39 for the final time in 2025.

The much-anticipated Abu Dhabi GP weekend has commenced as F1 heads into the final race of the year with three possible championship winners. Along with the aforementioned McLaren pair, Max Verstappen also remains in contention for the title.

The Dutchman has completed a remarkable comeback in the second half of the 2025 season and has leapfrogged Piastri for P2 in the standings heading into the season finale. He sits 12 points behind Norris, who is still the favorite to secure the title and only needs to finish third to secure his maiden championship.

Lando Norris has admitted that he is the one with the most to lose going into the title showdown at the Abu Dhabi GP. The Briton explained this was simply because he is the current leader of the drivers' championship going into the final round of the season.

Speaking at the drivers' press conference on Thursday, Norris explained the pressure he was under going into the race.

"I guess in terms of position, of course I have the most to lose, because I’m the one at the top. I’ll do my best to stay there until the end of the year - a few more days!" said Norris [via Formula 1].

"At the same time, if it doesn’t go my way, I’ll try again next year. It’ll hurt probably for a little while, then that’s life, we’ll crack on and try and do better next season," he added.

Norris also claimed that despite this, he will be entering the race with the mentality of having nothing to lose, as it is "just a race, for a championship." The 26-year-old also added that he would not be as worried about whether he won the title or not when he looks back on this moment in 30 years.
