1997 F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve has given his take on fans booing Lando Norris during last week's Mexican Grand Prix race weekend. In line with this, Villeneuve has asserted that it just 'didn't make any sense'.

Lando Norris was flawless in terms of performance in McLaren's MCL39. He did not put even a single foot wrong and was able to come away with a dominant victory. His teammate and the drivers' championship rival, Oscar Piastri, was only able to secure a fifth-place finish.

However, despite Norris sparkling his magic around the Autodromo Hermanos Racing Circuit, he was booed by the fans throughout the race weekend.

Several pundits have given their opinion on this in recent times, and another one to join the list is Jacques Villeneuve. The Canadian has deemed the Norris booing as 'odd' and added:

"That was odd, because I don’t remember booing in our days Martin, for some reason, or we just were deaf and didn’t hear them. But it was an odd one because it didn’t make any sense." (Via: Planet F1).
"And in Mexico, you know, British driver against an Australian in Mexico. Why should they care? There was no reason for it.”

After the end of the Mexican Grand Prix race weekend, Lando Norris has overtaken Oscar Piastri in the drivers' standings. As things stand, the former is currently sitting on 357 points in comparison to Piastri's 356. The reigning world champion, Max Verstappen, is in third place with 321 points.

While Jacques Villeneuve has been left baffled by the boos Lando Norris received during the Mexican Grand Prix race weekend, the latter has emphasized 'consistency' going forward into the rest of the 2025 F1 season.

Only four Grand Prix events are remaining on the race calendar, and Norris can't afford even a single slip-up, given the extremely close nature of the drivers' championship tussle.

In line with this, the Brit added the following via a post-race interview in Mexico City:

"The last few have been decent. But still a long way to go, so I just have to keep doing what I'm doing, keep trying to be consistent against some very quick guys around me. And, yeah, I think that'll be good. But it doesn't mean because I'm ahead or behind or whatever that I have to drive or do anything differently." (Via: BBC).

Next up on the race calendar is Round 21, the Brazilian Grand Prix. In 2024, the race was run under wet conditions at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace Circuit, and at the time, Lando Norris secured a P6 finish behind Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
