Lewis Hamilton shared a depressing outlook when asked about his expectations for the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix, claiming that it could not "get much worse" than his outing during the Mexican Grand Prix. The British driver finished Sunday's race in P8 after having started in third, missing out on another chance of securing his first podium with Ferrari.

Hamilton was in high spirits after qualifying for the Mexican GP, as he managed to put the Ferrari in P3, which was his highest starting position in 2025. The 7x world champion also made it through the first lap of the race in third and was looking competitive in his pursuit of a first podium with the Scuderia.

An incident with Max Verstappen on Lap 8 led to Hamilton receiving a 10-second penalty, as the chance of securing P3 went begging again. The 40-year-old called out the FIA for inconsistencies in their decisions after the race, as he claimed he felt "let down" by the governing body.

While in conversation with Brazilian outlet Band Esporte after the race on Sunday, Hamilton was asked what he was expecting from the upcoming Brazilian GP. The driver replied, saying:

"Can't really get much worse than today."
"I'm excited to be in Brazil, I'm excited to see as many people as I can in Brazil. And I know the love there is greater than pretty much everywhere I go. So, yeah, that's going to be lifting my spirits," he added.

Lewis Hamilton, of course, has a special relationship with Brazil, stemming from his admiration for F1 legend Ayrton Senna. The driver, who has won around Interlagos on three occasions previously, was also made an honorary citizen of Brazil in 2022.

Speaking to the media after the race on Sunday, Hamilton said, via Formula1.com:

“It was fun at the start and didn’t end up the way I had hoped, but it’s motor racing.”

When asked about his battle with Max Verstappen, which saw him leave the track and eventually receive a penalty, Hamilton added:

“No. It’s very dirty offline, and I did the best I could to bring the car back to the track safely. That’s all I could hope for.”

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur also commented on the incident after the race, describing the penalty given to Hamilton as “very harsh.” The Frenchman claimed that his driver would have been in contention for P4 if the penalty had been five seconds instead of ten.
