Ferrari star Charles Leclerc had a dreadful ending to the 2025 Las Vegas GP FP2 session as he parked up the car following a suspected gearbox issue. However, things got worse for the Monegasque after the session as he was summoned by the stewards for an alleged breach of rules.
Charles Leclerc topped the FP1 session at the Las Vegas GP and showcased blistering pace in the FP2 session as well. The Monegasque has showcased good pace at the street circuit and has finished P2 and P4 in the last couple of races in Sin City.
Red flags were waved during the last 15 minutes of the FP2 session following a suspected loose drain cover. The session was restarted with 6 minutes left on the timer, and Leclerc immediately got into trouble as he exited the pit lane.
Just a few corners in, Leclerc took to the team radio and complained to his race engineer about not being able to shift gears. The Ferrari driver was then instructed not to force gear changes, and the Monegasque parked the car.

After the FP2 session, the stewards summoned Charles Leclerc as the Ferrari star allegedly breached the rules as he failed to replace his steering wheel and turn off the ERS. It isn't safe for the marshals to handle the car when the ERS is still on, and as a result, it is mandated by the FIA rules.
“Alleged breach of Article 26.5 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations – driver did not replace the steering wheel and turn off the ERS,” read the stewards document.
After the first half in FP2, Leclerc was P1 with a time set on the medium tires. The Monegasque went for a soft tire run in the second half when he braked too late into the corner on his prep lap, which ruined that run. As Charles Leclerc was on a qualifying simulation soft run, the Red flags were brought out.
Leclerc finished the session in P3 with his medium tire lap time, where both the drivers in front of him set a lap time on the soft tires.
Charles Leclerc reacted to Ferrari President’s “talk less” statement
Ferrari President John Elkann came out after the Brazilian GP and said that the Scuderia drivers need to “focus on driving and talk less.” The same comments blew up into a huge topic, and things were speculated during the time between the Brazilian GP and the Las Vegas GP.
However, Charles Leclerc came out at the Las Vegas GP and cleared the intention behind Elkann’s comments as he said,
“John has always been extremely honest with me. When he thinks I've done something wrong or that anybody has done something wrong in the team, he will say it. When he called me, he told me what were the intentions of his words. That was very clear. It was a positive message, trying to be positive. Then, whichever way it's been expressed, I cannot really comment. It's not my job to comment, but the intent was positive.”
Lewis Hamilton also came out with a response along the same lines as Charles Leclerc, suggesting he has a great relationship with the Ferrari President.
