Alpine has confirmed that Pierre Gasly will be partnered with incumbent teammate Franco Colapinto in 2026. The Argentine became Gasly's teammate earlier this year after he had replaced Jack Doohan seven race weekends into the 2025 season.
Colapinto made his debut last year when he replaced Logan Sargeant at Williams midway through the season. His subsequent elated results in his first four Grand Prix weekends attracted the paddock's attention to him.
As Williams had a long-term lineup already signed in the form of Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz, being at the team from 2025 onwards, the Grove-based squad decided to let him move to Enstone, where Colapinto's best chance at an F1 seat relied. This meant that Jack Doohan had a sword hanging on his neck, and just after six race weekends this year, the 22-year-old took the helm of the Alpine A525 to bring stronger results.
While his results have not been on par with what he had achieved last year, his progress was enough for Alpine to give him a contract extension. Subsequently, sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Colapinto said (via Alpine):
"I am very grateful to Flavio and the entire team for their belief in me to help drive the team forwards in the future. Ever since I made my Formula One debut, I knew, given the circumstances at play, it would be a huge challenge to keep my place in this sport. It has been a long and tough road, and I am very proud for the opportunity to drive with this team again in 2026, alongside Pierre, who has been a great team-mate and will undoubtedly be someone I can continue to learn from."
Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto will at least see out the 2026 F1 season with the team.
Flavio Briatore asserts Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto are the perfect lineup for Alpine in 2026

Flavio Briatore made a return to the Enstone-based squad last year. Since then, his role has transformed into him seemingly being the leader of the squad and supercharging a revolution in Enstone.
Gasly joined the team in 2023, and with Franco being the young blood within the team, the 75-year-old has faith in his driver lineup, and said in the press release:
"With the line-up of Pierre and Franco, we have a good blend of experience, speed and talent that will help drive the team forward and hopefully give our fans something to cheer and shout about next season."
Meanwhile, in his 13 race starts for the French squad, Franco Colapinto has been unable to bring any points home for Alpine. Thus, he would be looking on to celebrating this contract extension with a points finish at the Brazilian GP, an event closest to his home nation of Argentina.
