Formula 1 is in Qatar for the penultimate race weekend of the season, the Qatar GP. Championship contender Oscar Piastri of McLaren claimed the pole position in the Sprint qualifying on Friday ahead of Mercedes' George Russell.
Piastri managed to set 1:20.055 on the timesheet in his final flying lap and was 0.032 seconds ahead of Russell. Piastri's teammate, Lando Norris, qualified in P3, ahead of Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso.
Yuki Tsunoda surprised everyone with P5 as he set a time better than his teammate, Max Verstappen (P6), for the first time in his Red Bull. Kimi Antonelli qualified in P7, ahead of Carlos Sainz.
Charles Leclerc and Alex Albon wrapped up the top 10. Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, had yet another disappointing outing as he was out in P18.

Qatar GP pole winner let his feelings known after stellar qualifying

Oscar Piastri, the Qatar GP pole winner, shared his thoughts following his stellar qualifying performance. Speaking to the media after the race, here's what he said:
"I am pretty happy. It's been a while since I have been in P1. It was pretty sudden [opposite lock.] That was not good. I do not know how much I lost, maybe 2 tenths."
Oscar Piastri is currently in P2 of the Drivers' Championship with 366 points. He is tied in points with Max Verstappen of Red Bull, and both of them trail Lando Norris in the championship by 24 points after 22 races and five sprints.
