American actor and film producer Samuel L Jackson came to the support of Lewis Hamilton following the end of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Back then, Red Bull's Max Verstappen won the drivers' world championship in a controversial manner.

During the closing stages of the 58-lap Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was in command of the race ahead of Max Verstappen (P2). On lap 53, then-Williams driver Nicholas Latifi crashed his car into the barriers at Turn 14, and from this point on, things went wrong for Hamilton.

Under the safety car, Verstappen came into the pits for a fresh pair of soft tyres and by the time he came out, he had a few lapped cars between him and Hamilton.

Initially, it was announced by the FIA (under the leadership of then Race Director Michael Masi) that lapped cars were not going to be allowed to overtake the safety car. However, surprisingly, with one lap remaining, the lapped car was allowed to overtake, leaving Verstappen and Hamilton for a one-lap dash to the checkered flag.

As a result, the Dutchman was able to get the better of Lewis Hamilton on the last lap with a fresh set of tyres, and this led to a huge controversy within Formula 1. Several top personalities shared their opinion on it, and one of them was Samuel L Jackson. Via Instagram stories, he came up with a strong response back then:

"Life is short, tomorrow isn't promised, and more time is not guaranteed for any of us. We shouldn't console him with next year. For a full season, we watched Lewis compete with Max for this title fairly and aggressively. Max Is an incredible driver."
"He deserved all his wins this season, but he did not win this championship. Lewis, our brother, was robbed. For 57.5 laps he dominated."

Following the end of the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP, Lewis Hamilton missed out on the drivers' championship by just eight points.

FIA's report regarding the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP controversy involving Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen

While Samuel L Jackson backed Lewis Hamilton in 2021 around the Abu Dhabi GP controversy, in 2022, the FIA admitted to 'human error' in the decision-making during the event, but also defended Michael Masi.

"The process of identifying lapped cars has up until now been a manual one and human error led to the fact that not all cars were allowed to unlap themselves." (Via: Sky Sports).
"The report finds that the race director was acting in good faith and to the best of his knowledge given the difficult circumstances, particularly acknowledging the significant time constraints for decisions to be made and the immense pressure being applied by the teams."

Since the end of the 2021 Formula 1 season, Lewis Hamilton has not been able to fight for the record-breaking eighth drivers' world championship.
