Jay Higgins is an American linebacker who played five years of college football with the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten Conference. He attended the Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School, where he captained the team, both in his junior and senior seasons, and led the school to the National Championship Game as a sophomore. He was a consensus three-star recruit in the class of 2020 and was named to the All-State Top 50 as a junior and senior. Higgins holds the school record for career tackles with 471.
Born and raised in Indianapolis, Jay Higgins signed with Iowa Hawkeyes over offers from Air Force, Ball State, Kent State, and Miami, among others. In his freshman year, he appeared in six games, recording two solo tackles, while in his sophomore year, he recorded five tackles in 14 games. After struggling in his first two years at Iowa, Higgins had a breakthrough campaign in the 2023 season. He led the Big Ten conference with 171 tackles and was ranked third in the Nation. After spectacular 2023 and 2024 campaigns, Higgins concluded his Iowa career with 341 career tackles, which ranks 14th in the Hawkeyes' history, and declared himself eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft.
