Mascots are one of the most common elements of Major League Baseball (MLB). They are used for marketing purposes and to target younger audiences to the teams and the sport. The concept of mascots in MLB was introduced by the New York Mets with their mascot, Mr. Met at Shea Stadium in 1964. Since then, the mascots in the league have only continued to increase in popularity due to their funny antics with everyone involved.

Mascots serve several benefits for MLB teams. Firstly they bring joy and excitement to fans during games enhancing the experience. Additionally, mascots play a role as ambassadors for their team's brands. Mascots represent the franchise and also, help promote team merchandise, ticket sales and various community outreach programs. Moreover, mascots have proven to be a marketing tool for MLB teams.

List of MLB Team Mascots 2024

Most of the MLB teams have been successful in getting a mascot of their own. However, certain teams like the New York Yankees, the Los Angeles Angels and the Los Angeles Dodgers do not have any mascot for themselves as yet as of 2024. Notably, several mascots like Slugerrr, (Kansas City Royals), the Phillie Phanatic (Philadelphia Phillies), Slider (Cleveland Guardians), Southpaw (Chicago White Sox) and the San Diego Chicken are notable for being Mascot Hall of Famers.
