The Pittsburgh Pirates are expected to be busy in the offseason after back-to-back disastrous seasons. The Pirates are reportedly looking at veteran New York Mets slugger Jeff McNeil to bolster their hitting lineup. The Pirates' offense has been underwhelming for the last two seasons, being unable to support reigning NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes' stellar performances from the mound. However, MLB podcaster 'AT' from the "Just Baseball" podcast lashed out at the Pirates, valued at $1.35 billion by Forbes, for looking at McNeil as a potential trade candidate in the offseason."If the Pirates answer to building a competent offense for Paul Skenes is to trade for Jeff McNeil they need to be disbanded."McNeil is heading into the final year of his $50 million contract with the Mets and has a $15.75 million option for the 2027 season. The two-time All-Star had a down year in 2025, batting .243 with a .746 OPS for the Mets.Apart from McNeil, the Mets are reportedly linked with Jorge Polanco, Ryan O’Hearn and Kazuma Okamoto and Brandon Lowe.
