Cameron Norrie is preparing for his Round of 32 encounter against World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz at the Paris Masters. Norrie defeated Sebastian Baez to set up the date with the Spaniard, who enjoyed the first-round bye because of his top seed.
Ahead of the R32 encounter, Norrie is looking forward to meeting Alcaraz and potentially taking him down despite being down 5-2 in head-to-heads. The Brit told ATPTour.com:
āItās a match to enjoy. Heās one of the two best players in the world, between him and Jannik [Sinner]. Iām going to take it to him ⦠I always have battles with him, so Iām looking forward to that.ā
Four months ago, Norrie was defeated in straight sets by Alcaraz in the Wimbledon quarter-final. Norrie is not thinking too much about the Wimbledon loss, even though he believes Alcaraz has a "very complete game and is one of the most confident guys."
āIām going to leave that all behind and go on and play," Norrie said. "For sure [time for some revenge], he chopped me pretty easily at Wimbledon so Iām going to have to step up my level to have a chance with him.ā
Cameron Norrie reveals his strategy for Carlos Alcaraz matchup at Paris Masters
For this encounter against Carlos Alcaraz, Cameron Norrie is out for revenge, and he will use the new conditions at the ATP Masters 1000 eventās new home, La Defense Arena, to his advantage.
āFor sure I like it. I remember last year it was so quick I couldnāt make too many balls,ā Norrie said. āIt suits my game well and the ball's bouncing up a little bit more than I remember. It was always pretty low here before, so thatās really good for my forehand and I can get some good revs on it.ā
Norrie said he needs to be prepared for heavy topspin on his court. He added:
āEspecially on this court, where the ball is bouncing a lot, Iām going to have to vary it a lot and be ready for anything.ā
This year, Cameron Norrie defeated a top-10 opponent when he took down Lorenzo Musetti in Washington. The confidence is definitely there. Meanwhile, Alcaraz comes into this matchup, winning the Japan Open, but he did lose against Jannik Sinner pretty easily at the Six Kings Slam. With the ATP Finals up ahead, Alcaraz will hope to do well in Paris.
