After 14 weeks following the horror injury in the 2025 Wimbledon championship, Grigor Dimitrov stepped on the court to play in the Round of 64 match against France's Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the Paris Masters. Dimitrov won the match in straight sets, 7-6(5), 6-1.
Dimitrov's actress girlfriend Eiza Gonzalez watched the game unfold from afar. She reshared the clip of the Bulgarian tennis star's entry with warm applause from the crowd. She echoed the sentiments with firecracker emojis.

She also reshared a point where Dimitrov outwitted his opponent in the second set. She called him "Warrior" on her Instagram stories.

In July, Grigor Dimitrov suffered a pectoral-muscle tear in his Round of 16 match versus Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. Interestingly, he was up by two sets and tied in the third before he could no longer continue because of the injury. Sinner went on to win the All England Club title by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
Ahead of his Paris Masters return, Dimitrov said taking a step back from tennis helped him in other ways.
“I’m doing very well, taking a step back from tennis really did me good,” he said via Tennis365. “It was the first time in almost twenty years that I could really be at home for the summer, so I took advantage of these moments. I wasn’t really following what was happening on the tour, I wasn’t trying to stay connected.
Grigor Dimitrov reflects on being away from court due to injury
In his return, Grigor Dimitrov broke his opponent three times in the second set to show his prowess. After the match, Dimitrov shed light on how it was for him to miss most of the second half of the season while recovering from his injury.
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole time away from the court. It was never easy,” Dimitrov said via Tennis.com. “I knew that coming to competition was going to be a difficult task. I just wanted to come out and test myself, give myself a chance... It’s a good night. I’m taking it in.”
“It’s such an amazing crowd and towards the end of the year, you really feel that energy... I feel very appreciated all around. That gives me great gratitude just to be back,” he added.
Dimitrov said he was in good headspace mentally before the tournament began. He hopes to do well in this tournament before shifting focus to a healthy 2026 season.
