Ben Shelton vs Andrey Rublev preview

Fifth seed Ben Shelton will face Andrey Rublev in the third round of the Paris Masters on Thursday.
Shelton received a bye into the second round, where Flavio Cobolli awaited him. Neither player made inroads on the other's serve in the opening set, leading to a tie-break. The American needed a single mini-break in the tie-break to take the set. A break of serve put Shelton in the driver's seat in the second set. He held on to that advantage until the end for a 7-6(4), 6-3 win.
Rublev, meanwhile, beat Jacob Fearnley 6-1, 6-4 to reach the second round, where he was up against Learner Tien. An early break of serve laid the foundation for the Russian to take the first set. Tien appeared to have found his footing in the second set, racing to a 3-0 lead. However, Rublev soon turned the tables on him, winning six of the next seven games for a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Ben Shelton vs Andrey Rublev prediction

Shelton scored a solid win over Cobolli, his 39th of the year, to begin his campaign in Paris. He didn't drop serve even once and won 86 percent of his first-serve points. He has made the third round of the tournament for the first time in his career. He will now aim to win back-to-back matches for the first time since his return to the tour following an injury at the US Open.
Rublev, on the other hand, arrived at the Paris Masters on a five-match losing streak. However, he put his poor form behind him and played some solid tennis to reach the third round in Paris for the fourth time in his career. While he has a 34-24 record this season, he is 1-4 against top-10 players.
Shelton has a 6-7 record against top-20 players and has won five of his last six matches against them. He previously beat Rublev en route to last year's Swiss Indoors final. While that match was also played indoors, the courts in Paris have been slowed down this year.
Nevertheless, this hasn't dampened Shelton's game. He is showing signs of his pre-injury form, and if he can sustain the momentum, he should be able to get past Rublev.
Pick: Ben Shelton to win in three sets.
