Water decks in Pokemon TCG Pocket have been popular in the past few metas thanks to Suicune ex, and the Mega Rising expansion made it better with the new Greninja ex. While the deck is straightforward to run, it does need a little attention to play well. This deck’s strength lies in seamless switching, smart bench management, and maintaining tempo throughout the match.

  • HP: 170
  • Ability: Shifting Stream - Once per turn, you can swap your Active Water Pokemon with one on your Bench
  • Move: Aqua Edge - 100 Damage for 2 Water Energy
  • Retreat Cost: 2 Energy

Greninja ex is your anchor in the mid to late stages of the match. Its high HP lets it tank hits, but the real power comes from Shifting Stream. Being able to reposition any Water Pokemon without paying retreat costs gives you a lot of flexibility and counter effects from Sabrina, Cyrus, and Repel. Aqua Edge is straightforward and energy-efficient, dealing solid consistent damage. Keep in mind, Greninja ex steps in as your end-game finisher.

2) Suicune ex

  • HP: 140
  • Ability: Legendary Pulse - If Suicune ex is your Active Pokemon at the end of your turn, draw 1 card
  • Move: Crystal Waltz - 20x damage for 2 Water Energy
  • Move effect: This attack deals 20 damage for each Pokemon on both Benches (up to 120)
  • Retreat Cost: 2 Energy

Suicune ex is the ideal opener. Its Legendary Pulse speeds up your early game, helping you fill the Bench, search for evolutions, and pull crucial Support cards. As both players build their boards, Crystal Waltz becomes a solid damage option, scaling naturally to a maximum damage of 120. Its role is to set up the field and apply pressure without burning resources.

3) Greninja (Genetic Apex)

  • HP: 90
  • Ability: Water Shuriken - Once per turn, deal 20 damage to one of your opponent’s Pokemon
  • Move: Mist Slash - 60 Damage for 1 Water and 1 Colorless Energy
  • Retreat Cost: 1 Energy

Genetic Apex’s Greninja ability, Water Shuriken, is invaluable for sniping low-HP targets or weakening healthy ones to set up Cyrus plays. Being a non-ex Pokemon also gives you a safe way to counter (Oricorio Pom-Pom Style). Prioritize evolving into this Greninja early so you can chip away crucial early-game health from key targets.
