When are Mega Gyarados and Mega Charizard Y coming to Pokemon Unite?

With Mega Gyarados and Mega Charizard Y coming soon to Pokemon Unite, players have been seeing a steady roster expansion of Megas in the title. As seen with latest introductions, the meta gets refreshed slightly, offering players new strategies and team compositions. Now, there's finally confirmation of the next pair of familiar faces joining the roster.

Here’s everything we know so far about their release dates and a general idea of how to unlock them.

Following the introduction of Mega Lucario and Mega Charizard X, Pokemon Unite has confirmed its next Mega Evolution entries: Mega Gyarados and Mega Charizard Y.

According to the official announcement, Mega Gyarados is scheduled to launch on December 5, 2025, while Mega Charizard Y will make its debut on December 19, 2025.

How Mega Gyarados and Mega Charizard Y in Pokemon Unite are expected to work

Mega Gyarados and Mega Charizard Y’s official announcement revealed that both upcoming newcomers will have to use their Unite Moves to trigger their Mega transformation.

Additionally, looking at recent Mega treatment in-game, it is safe to assume that they will need to use a dedicated Mega Stone Held Item, which takes up one of the three available Held Item slots.

The developers have not revealed most gameplay details for these two, but it has been confirmed that both Mega Gyarados and Mega Charizard Y will be tied to time-limited in-game events, similar to Mega Lucario and Mega Charizard X.

Players who complete these event challenges will be able to earn their licenses for free.

For anyone who misses the event window, the licenses will still be obtainable afterward through in-game currencies or via the upcoming License Journeys feature.
