According to the Pokemon lore, under normal circumstances Zeraora has always been known for its immense natural potential but it carries an internal limiter to control its massive electrical reserves. Mega Evolution appears to remove that limiter entirely.

Mega Zeraora’s body stores electrical energy, which can be physically seen in several areas of its body, most notably the spikes on its forehead, chest, back, and the backs of its hands.
