How to solo defeat Dynamax Lugia in Pokemon GO 5-star Max Battles

It is possible to solo defeat Dynamax Lugia in Pokemon GO 5-star Max Battles as long as you have the right counters and strategy. The creature will take over Power Spots from 6 am to 9 pm local time on November 29 and 30, 2025. During this time, you must spend 800 MP to enter the fight.

Counters and conditions

When challenging Dynamax Lugia Max Battles in Pokemon GO on your own, you should use the following best team:

Level 50 Gigantamax Gengar with Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball (Must have Level 3 Max Attack)
Level 50 Crowned Sword Zacian with Metal Claw and Behemoth Blade (Must have Level 3 Max Guard)
Level 40+ Dynamax Metagross with Fury Cutter and Meteor Mash (Must have Level 3 Max Guard)

In addition to this team, the following conditions must be met:

Tier 2 helpers
Max Mushroom
Lugia's moveset: Fly/Sky Attack (spread) and Future Sight (target)

Having the Behemoth Blade Adventure Effect and Foggy weather will also be helpful in completing the battle quicker, but they are not necessary conditions for victory.

Strategy

First of all, you should keep resetting the battle until you get the desired Lugia moveset of Fly/Sky Attack (spread) and Future Sight (target). Zacian will be used to charge the Dynamax Meter and tank the Flying-type moves, while Metagross will be used to tank targeted Future Sights (as the move is double-resisted in this scenario). Dynamax Malamar would have been more effective in the latter case, but Metagross can double up in tanking Fly/Sky Attack if needed.

Lead with Gengar and switch into Zacian when you see the first incoming move. Here on, switch between Zacian and Metagross depending on what move needs tanking. During the first two Dynamax phases, use three rounds of Max Guard on Metagross and Zacian, respectively.

After this, all Dynamax phases should be used to attack using Gigantamax Gengar's G-Max Terror. Keep repeating this pattern until you solo defeat Dynamax Lugia in Pokemon GO.

Unlike 6-star Max Battles, where you shouldn't use Charged Attacks, it is recommended that you use both Shadow Ball and Behemoth Blade in this fight. However, you should time the moves properly so you don't catch incoming damage incorrectly.

You can also use Gigantamax Toxtricity with Spark and Wild Charge instead of Gigantamax Gengar to solo defeat Dynamax Lugia in Pokemon GO but that will necessarily require Rainy weather.
