The Dallas Stars originated as the Minnesota North Stars in 1967 as an NHL expansion team based in Bloomington, Minnesota. However, a merger with Cleveland Barons and later a shift to Dallas led the team to be renamed as the Dallas Stars. Notably, their home arena, the American Airlines Center is located in the nearby Victory Park neighborhood of Dallas. They also share this arena with the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Additionally, Gaglardi owns the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League and also sits on the ownership table of the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League.
