Trade chatter around Quinn Hughes has grown louder as the Vancouver Canucks continue to slide this season. A new report has added fuel to that discussion.

In his Tuesday column for Sportsnet, insider Nick Kypreos broke down what a potential New Jersey Devils trade package could look like if Vancouver chooses to move its captain. Kypreos noted that the Devils and Canucks have stayed in contact since last summer and that New Jersey’s offer would need to be significant.

"It’s far from a certainty that there’s any deal to do here between now and March, but Simon Nemec’s name is certainly out there along with Dawson Mercer, and any of New Jersey's first-round picks in the next three years would be in play." Kypreos wrote.

Quinn Hughes remains under a six-year, $47.1 million deal with a $7.85 million cap hit through 2027. He does not have trade protection.

With Vancouver sitting last in the NHL and facing long-term uncertainty, the possibility of a blockbuster deal has become harder to ignore. Much of the speculation centers on the appeal of reuniting Hughes with brothers Jack and Luke in New Jersey.

Still, it would take a massive return, and there is no sign that Vancouver is committed to moving him yet.

Quinn Hughes brushed off New Jersey trade rumors

Quinn Hughes continues to carry the Vancouver Canucks on the ice. He leads their blue line with 22 points in 25 games and logs more than 27 minutes a night. Even during the slump, his transition play and power-play work stand out.

Hughes has himself brushed off the noise about a potential trade to New Jersey.

"I mean, no. I’m doing what I can," Hughes said about rumors. "Like you said, I’m on the ice. It wasn’t like, if there was a call, me, Jim [Rutherford], and Fitzy [Tom Fitzgerald] hopped on the call, you know, I wasn’t a part of that. But obviously I’m aware that, you know, things like that could happen, for sure."

Meanwhile, the Canucks sit at 11-16-3 and struggle to keep pucks out of their net. Defensive lapses and inconsistent scoring have cost them games, though Elias Pettersson and Kiefer Sherwood continue to produce.

Despite their record, Vancouver still leans heavily on Quinn Hughes to drive possession and keep them competitive.

They are heading into a game against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday, hoping to bounce back after a 4-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Monday.
